We don't often talk about what cause obesity…
Most of the time we know that the factors of obesity are genetics, lifestyle habits like unhealthy eating and inactivity, certain medical conditions such as an underactive thyroid, medications that cause weight gain, and insufficient sleep which disrupts appetite-regulating hormones
But we do not talk enough about depression, struggle loneliness which can lead to obesity sometimes.
Younger I always used to have strange relationship with food but during the year 2020 after giving birth a year ago to my second son the world was facing pandemic killing people left and right . The world completely stopped at this time as governments in different countries imposed a total lockdown to save lives and prevent death.
But the fact that people were lost businesses, jobs being unable to see family , friends was a tough time without knowing what the future would hold up how long we would have to face this was stressful.
My emotions dictated my every action especially around food. Comfort eating became a constant companion filling the void when nothing else seems to help not even the presence and love of my husband and children gradually, this circle turned into a battle with addiction to junk food and obesity not just physically but mentally and emotionally.
I could see how it affected me over the years but I decided to ignore it and carried on . Pretending to be confident when secretly I wasn't.
I find myself stuck in this spiral . You can definitely be someone who becomes obese due to deep roots in mental and emotional struggles simply for many individuals food serves as coping mechanism to manage stress and anxiety, depression or unresolved trauma.it isn't always a physical condition.
Recognising that obesity may be a symptom of deeper struggles helps shift the conversation from blame to kindness and empowerment , enabling sustainable health changes and improved well-being
